I came via a link to the book " Cross Talk" featured on Prime Time America today. There is a common theme, pointing people to Jesus when listening to their problems.I have been frustrated over the last five years at my attempt to get counseling following my husband's affairs and consequent disinterest in reconciliation. It's usually, "bring your husband." He won't come and then that is that. I started out convinced that if I did this God's way He was going to do a great miracle in restoring our marriage.The last couple of rounds I came saying, "I need help. I am messed up." Still didn't get help. I have been feeling horribly guilty that I can't find a counselor who can help me. It must be me. I can relate to the "God loves you and that makes it all Ok" attempt at trying to make me feel better.This was really helpful. Even if I am not "sinning" in a way that I can pin down from some commandment in my response to the situation I can see that I have made some idols in my life even of good things and things that are not even things. I got to the point where I have been holding God at a distance while I go through the motions doing and saying all the right things.There is an old Vineyard song that goes Lord, break the power of idols Come and rule as King Break the chains that bind us Come and rule as KingWe will have no other gods We will have no other Master but You We will have no other gods For it is written, "Worship the Lord Your God and serve Him only" I’m not a man..but this caught my eye and I took an hour (almost exactly) to read it.
